Hello.
Trying to blog about an experience isn't my forte , comments would be appreciated.
While I looked for articles on this topic, I didn't find anything useful. So here I am to tell you about my experience.
I write CAT 2015 in November and my result was quite a shock (dont ask why)!!.I knew my chances were bleak, but something in me whispered to fill out the application forms. I filled out the MBA form for IITK & was called to IITK Campus for further rounds on April 3,2016 at 2 PM.
After this, we were escorted to a conference hall where the briefing about the entire program was done, again by student coordinators.
There were two rounds-GD and PI.
Being an outstation candidate having to leave the same day, I requested them to accommodate the same. They asked me if I'm okay with going first and off I went for the PI.
My interview panel had two people, one of them being from IT background.
Looking at my academic credentials, I wasn't asked the usual technical questions. My interview started out with "Hey you're from Agra ,there's a replica of Taj Mahal, where is it and who built it?" I told them the answer and the background story. Sometimes, you never know what helps you. Seeing music on my resume, a few questions were asked regarding the same. They were easy for me, but there's no way even an ardent lover will have that deep a knowledge of those topics. I could see their smiles, and finally I was given a question with no correct answers.
"How many gas connections are there in India?" I didn't give a clear cut answer to it, but formulated an algorithm, factored in things and gave a ball park analysis. The panel then asked me to leave.
After that came My GD. We were given a case study related to under-performance of primary school students in Govt. schools. I spoke for the stipulated time ie 60secs,and didn't interject at all as there were some over enthusiastic people who thought screaming and belittling other people would guarantee them a spotlight(courtesy-MTV roadies :P).
But almost every single person at the table referred to my points and quoted it, so that was an advantage.

The overall experience was good, and I wasn't nervous at all.
The results came out on May 1,and I converted.
Thanks for providing such an open feedback to everyone on the net. Good to know about your entire experience and finally for converting the call! You'll have a great time, in case you enroll. All the best in any case!

Hi Kriti,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thank you for this experience sharing.
I have scored 92.27, do you think I will be getting the call and is there any fighting chance, considering percentile is a major factor of selection ?
You're welcome.
DeleteI got a call with a percentile close to yours, and once you get a call you have as much a chance as anyone else. All the best
Do you have an idea of how long will the wait list be and what was the last person's number to get converted last year?
ReplyDeleteAlmost everyone n the wait list converted last year. This year,we are pushing the profs for longer wait lists though,so cannot be said.It was a short one last year.
DeleteWhat is the cutoff required for MBA admissions via GATE? What is the fee structure?
ReplyDeleteThey dont accept gate score.
