IIT Kanpur MBA Interview experience 2016

Hello.
Trying to blog about an experience isn't my forte , comments would be appreciated.
While I looked for articles on this topic, I didn't find anything useful. So here I am to tell you about my experience.
I write CAT 2015 in November and my result was quite a shock (dont ask why)!!.I knew my chances were bleak, but something in me whispered to fill out the application forms. I filled out the MBA form for IITK & was called to IITK Campus for further rounds on April 3,2016 at 2 PM.

Upon reaching, the first hall we had to report to had busy student coordinators handing out the checklist. They also offered to help with photocopies and other last minute stuff, which showed how meticulously they took their work. After the checklist, I was sent to another room where all my documents and mark sheets were verified, percentages recalculated and submitted. I was allotted a number and a panel.

After this, we were escorted to a conference hall where the briefing about the entire program was done, again by student coordinators.
There were two rounds-GD and PI.
Being an outstation candidate having to leave the same day, I requested them to accommodate the same. They asked me if I'm okay with going first and off I went for the PI.

My interview panel had two people, one of them being from IT background.
Looking at my academic credentials, I wasn't asked the usual technical questions. My interview started out with "Hey you're from Agra ,there's a replica of Taj Mahal, where is it and who built it?" I told them the answer and the background story. Sometimes, you never know what helps you. Seeing music on my resume, a few questions were asked regarding the same. They were easy for me, but there's no way even an ardent lover will have that deep a knowledge of those topics. I could see their smiles, and finally I was given a question with no correct answers.
"How many gas connections are there in India?" I didn't give a clear cut answer to it, but formulated an algorithm, factored in things and gave a ball park analysis. The panel then asked me to leave.

After that came My GD. We were given a case study related to under-performance of primary school students in Govt. schools. I spoke for the stipulated time ie 60secs,and didn't interject at all as there were some over enthusiastic people who thought screaming and belittling other people would guarantee them a spotlight(courtesy-MTV roadies :P).
But almost every single person at the table referred to my points and quoted it, so that was an advantage.

The overall experience was good, and I wasn't nervous at all.
The results came out on May 1,and I converted.

I have scored 92.27, do you think I will be getting the call and is there any fighting chance, considering percentile is a major factor of selection ?

5 new ways to drape your dupatta and scarves this year!

Hey all, attempting my first fashion related post,Do let me know how is it in comments. Scarves are a cheap yet chic way to add an oomph to an everyday outfit, and can be worn in winters as well as summers. It is important to pick a scarf in the way you want to wear it,whether it means picking a scarf as the star and building an outfit around it,or realizing you need to fix a malfunction (pee-a-boo) and add a drape to soften the look. The fabric, print and the color affect how each knot looks,so play around. I scourged through Pinterest one lazy afternoon, and here are my best picks. 1: The half bow: Effortless and sexy.Works well for long as well as short scarves. Courtesy: http://womenelite.com/how-to-tie-a-scarf/ 2: The Belt-it-up: Closer home, south Indians wear a waistbelt with sarees. Our designers took it up a notch and belted lehenga dupattas were all the rage last season. So pick out an old kurti, belt a short scarf and get ready to rock! Five best Open source (and FREE ) software you should be using already!!

For those of you who do not know what Free and Open Source software is,Google is your friend. [Free = Free speech and not Free Beer]. Its okay, you can read this article without any prior knowledge of open source. All software listed below are free to download,or at least try.Keep in mind that the latest isn't always the best, sometimes going down a version or two can really help with the stability. It may require a little breaking into the new shoes, but the output is definitely worth it.This is not to say that all proprietary software is useless, but its good to know that we have alternatives. 1: No License for Microsoft office?  Use LibreOffice,KOffice or OpenOffice Instead. Its free, stable and has more features and add-ins.Explore before you give up and thank me later 2: Use GIMP ( GNU Image Manipulation Tool)  to "Photoshop" your Photoshop woes.Again, stick with it,you'll be rewarded. And check out Blender if you're into modelling and animation. 3:What??
